ALBANY, N.Y. (WKTV) - Governor Andrew Cuomo will deliver his budget address Tuesday from Albany, outlining his fiscal plan for the upcoming year.

Local representatives say they are hoping that the governor expands upon the general themes he outlined in his State of the State address earlier this month.

"The city of Utica school district is struggling. We have a high rate of poor in rural areas that are struggling and the governor is committed to putting more money into education and I commend him for that," says Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi.

Assemblyman Brindisi says that lack of school funding is one of the biggest problems facing the area. He says he is glad Governor Cuomo is committing $800 million more this year to fund schools, but is looking for more specifics on how this money will be allocated to local schools

Senator Joseph Griffo says he is hoping that the governor will address the issue of rising Medicaid costs that he says is draining local governments.

"The key here is that the counties feel they are overburdened and we understand that, and many of us in the legislature want something to be done to alleviate that burden," says Senator Griffo.

Griffo and Brindisi both say they are co-sponsoring a bill that proposes a gradual state take-over of the Medicaid program to save help relieve local governments and save taxpayers money.

Both say they are looking forward to hear what the governor has to say on the topic during his budget address on Tuesday.
