NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - Cyber Monday began in 2005, and ever since, statistics say the naming of an actual day has given retailers an extra boost.

We talked with some shoppers at Sangertown Square mall in New Hartford on Sunday about whether they will be heading home to look for online deals.

Erin Glazier says she definitely will, "You can different deals for video games and things like that for your kids. They have package deals instead of buying deals, you can get multiple things for cheaper."

Glazier was in the minority, as most people told us they would rather head to the stores themselves and actually look at the actual items they will be buying.

Leslie Brown of Norwich says she is one who heads to the stores and rarely shops online, "It's just a lot more fun."

Cyber Monday was originally coined that because some retail studies showed that after the long Thanksgiving weekend in the early 2000's, many people who didn't have a computer at home went back to work on Monday, got on their work computers and then ordered what they found or couldn't find in the stores.

Once the day was deemed Cyber Monday, sales have taken off big time.
