Local veterans say jobs and benefits key issues for them in upcoming elections

By MIKE LaFAVE

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Local soldiers fighting overseas will soon become veterans in need of jobs and benefits.

Proposed legislation before congress would expands on the GI Bill, adding vocational schools, apprenticeships and on-the-job training benefits. It would also fast-track veterans disability claims.

Local veterans say issues like these will help them decide who they vote for in November.

"Because they sacrificed those years, now that they've come back, I think it's proper for the American people to recognize there people coming back and help them," said Lt. Colonel Jack Lomedico of the Army Reserve.

Congressman Arcuri plans to support this bill when congress goes back into session next week.

His 2010 congressional opponent, Richard Hanna said nothing is more important than providing for vets, and he looks forward to the opportunity to do so in congress.
