Local woman remembers her son on 9/11

By ALLISON NORLIAN

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - September 11th is a day to remember and reflect and that's precisely what Shirley Felt did on Wednesday at the City of Utica Remembrance Ceremony.

Every year for 12 years Mrs. Felt has relived the day she found out her son was killed in the 9/11 attacks. Although the anniversary of 9/11 is solemn for her, she is thankful that each year she is surrounded with love and support from her friends, family and community.

Felt said she visits the 9/11 memorial on Memorial Parkway two to three times a year but always on September 11th, " Its difficult, losing a loved one is bad under any circumstance and you always want to remember and you do always remember but in my situation I get lots of phone calls, emails, I talk to friends I haven't seen in a long time but they too remember and will call and tell us they are thinking about us. It brings our family a lot closer together."

Everyone from first responders, elected officials and community residents attended the City Remembrance. Six area resident's including Felt placed a flower on the Utica memorial for the 9/11 victims.

Felt says not a day goes by that she doesn't think about her beloved first born and she hopes that no one ever forgets.
