Locals learn hardships of third-world countries at Mock Refugee Camp

By WKTV News

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - MVCC held a Mock Refugee Camp in order to bring about global issues many people face, Friday.
The purpose was to shed light about issues and conditions happening globally.
Since many Uticans come from refugee camps themselves, the college felt that it would be a good way to show the community about the cultural diversity in the area.
"Its to show how far and the distance of water, how far people travel to get their water," said Gear Up Head Coordinator, Isabela Moon. "It shows how much they would carry, they would carry 20 liters for 200 meters back and forth through the village."

The program was a way to celebrate World Refugee Day.
