Locals shave their heads to raise money for pediatric cancer research

MOHAWK, N.Y. (WKTV) - With all the hot weather that's expected to hit this week, it might be good to go with a rather short hair cut.

A lot of local folks got their locks cut off Sunday at Mohawk's Gregory B. Jarvis Jr/Sr High School to help fund pediatric cancer research.

St. Baldrick's is a national not for profit agency designed to "conquer kids cancer" and a local woman named Shannon Stewart, who has a friend whose young daughter was diagnosed with cancer last year, decided to hold the event to help the cause.

"Today's event is really just in memory of all the children that passed before their cure could be found, and hopes to find a cure before any other children in this area are diagnosed," said Stewart.
