WEST TURIN, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Lyons Falls man is dead following a motor vehicle accident Thursday morning in Lewis County.

New York State Police in Lowville investigated the accident that they say occurred at approximately 6:48 am Thursday morning on State Route 12D in the Town of West Turin.

Authorities say a 2000 Oldsmobile driven by Charles F. Burdick, 64, of Lyons Falls, was southwest bound on State Route 12D, climbing the hill west of Lyons Falls, when it went off the right side of the roadway for an unknown reason and struck a guide rail and then a ditch.

The vehicle overturned and came to rest on the driver's side, with Burdick partially ejected through the driver's side window.

Trooper Emerson Lyndaker, Lewis County Sheriff's Department Deputy Renita Schaffner and members of the Turin Fire Department responded to the scene and were able to extricate Mr. Burdick from the wreckage. Mr. Burdick was pronounced deceased on the scene.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation and anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact the NY State Police in Lowville at 315-376-6241.
