MVCAA offering help with registering for heating assistance

(WKTV) - Mohawk Valley Community Action Agency will be assisting with the application process for the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) beginning Monday at its Rome office.

The office is located at 1721 Black River Blvd. Staff has set up computer stations so applications can log on to www.mybenefits.ny.gov and submit their application.

Outreach sessions at other locations in Oneida County will be announced at a later date.

To schedule an appointment, call (315) 624-9930 Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. HEAP assists eligible households with heating and heat-related utility costs. Program dates are Nov. 18-March 17 for regular applications.

On Jan. 2, the emergency component of the program will open. Regular benefits range from $1 to $600 and emergency benefits range from $160 to $600. Eligibility for regular benefits is based on gross income and household size.

The guidelines are as follows:

For a household size of one, the gross monthly income must be between $0 and $2,175.

For a household size of two, the gross monthly income must be between $0 and $2,844.

For a household size of three, the gross monthly income must be between $0 and $3,513.

For a household size of four, the gross monthly income must be between $0 and $4,182.

For a household size of five, the gross monthly income must be between $0 and $4,852.

For a household size of six, the gross monthly income must be between $0 and $5,521.

For a household size of seven, the gross monthly income must be between $0 and $5,646.

For a household size of eight, the gross monthly income must be between $0 and $5,772.

For a household size of nine, the gross monthly income must be between $0 and $5,897.

For a household size of 10, the gross monthly income must be between $0 and $6,023

For a household size of 11, the gross monthly income must be between $0 and $6,461.
