Major renovations in store for Kennedy Plaza after federal help
UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - All 303 apartments at Kennedy Plaza will soon get a major facelift.
Kennedy Plaza owner, Liberty Affordable Housing, has been awarded $1.3 million in tax credits and $1.3 million in loans to renovate the aging building. Tenants will see new kitchens, bathrooms, hallway carpeting, elevators, windows, and more. Some residents will stay in place while apartments are under construction, others will be moved for a few days. Officials with liberty affordable housing say this project is long overdue. "When you let a project go down hill like this, it appears that the owners don't care - and they probably didn't," said Liberty Affordable Housing Executive Director Thomas F. Kirkpatrick. "So the tenants don't care. That leads to safety concerns and crime entering the building. But we're going to rectify all that." New surveillance will be added to the complex, as well as surveillance staff accessible to residents 24-hours per day. The project is expected to begin in October. |
