Police searching for suspect end up with different man

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - Several agencies who convened on a house in the Town of Lee in search of a suspect didn't find him. Instead, they found a man who ended up arrested on a parole violation.

On Thursday, members of the U.S. Marshal's Regional Fugitive Task Force, the Oneida County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit and the Oneida County Drug Enforcement Task Force went to a home on State Route 26 in the Town of Lee.

According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, the agencies were at the home looking for a person wanted on a Utica City Court Warrant. While at the home, members of the agencies met 30-year-old Nathaniel R. Garrett, who was under the supervision of New York State parole.

While searching the house for the wanted man, investigators found a loaded semi-automatic pistol magazine. A search warrant was obtained and a nine-millimeter semi-automatic pistol was found inside the home.

The person whom investigators were originally searching for was not located. However, Garrett was sent to the Oneida County Correctional Facility on a parole violation.

Members of New York State Parole and the Utica, Rome and New Hartford Police Departments assisted at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
