CHARLOTTE, Nc (WKTV) - A North Carolina man is fighting extradition to the state of Maryland where he is accused of shooting and killing an Ilion woman who had just moved there.
Ryan Matthias, 43 has been charged with first-degree and second-degree murder as well as first-degree assault in the shooting death of Deborah Castellano, 47. Castellano had just left the Village of Ilion to begin a new job in Columbia, Maryland when she was found shot multiple times on Saturday, May 4 in a vehicle parked in the lot of her new apartment building. Authorities said a person living nearby found her body inside the vehicle.
Former co-workers of Castellano's say she and Matthias had dated.
Matthias was picked up in Charlotte, North Carolina and needs to be extradited to Maryland to face his charges. Since he is now fighting the extradition, an extradition hearing will have to be held in North Carolina. Prosecutors in Howard County, Maryland say they hope Matthias will be brought back to that county by the end of June.
