Man accused of causing injuries to 8 week old infant

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - A former Rome man is now behind bars after in the Oneida County Correctional Facility, accused of causing serious injuries to an 8-week-old infant several months ago.

Jonathon E. Greener, 20, was taken into custody on May 24 on an Oneida County Court indictment charging him with five counts of second-degree assault. Greener is accused of causing injuries to the victim on more than one occasion, Rome Police said.

Authorities say they began their investigation on January 8, 2012 after they responded to a report of an injured child at Greener's North Washington Street residence. The victim was later transported to a Syracuse hospital with serious injuries, including several broken bones in various stages of healing. Police are not disclosing the relationship between Greener and the victim.

Greener, currently of Clinton, was arrested at his College Street residence by members of the Kirkland Police Department and remanded to the county jail in lieu of $50,000 bail pending further proceedings.

Rome Police Detectives Raymond Bolton and Richard Galluppi headed the investigation. Galluppi is currently assigned to the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center.
