Man arrested, Woman sent to hospital after Rome accident

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Clinton man was arrested for DWI after leaving the scene of an accident, according to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities say that 51-year-old William Iffert, of Clinton, crossed over the center line while driving on River Road, near the intersection of Route 365. His car struck the side of a car driving in the other direction, officials say.

The second car was driven by 50-year-old Wendy Chargo, of Rome.

Chargo was sent to Rome Memorial Hospital for neck and back pain.

Sheriffs say that Iffert left the scene of the accident.

Officials say he was located on River Road near Taft Road by the Rome Police Department and was arrested for DWI and received traffic tickets for failure to keep right and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.
