Man arrested with drugs and children in vehicle at traffic stop

A 26-year-old man faces charges after a traffic stop turned into a drug arrest.

Ernest King was stopped on Bleecker Street in Utica after officers say they noticed two children in the back seat without booster seats or seat belts on.

Authorities say they smelled marijuana from the vehicle.

Police determined that King had marijuana, heroin and packing materials in the vehicle.

The children were turned over to their mother.

Police have contacted Child Protective Services.

King faces two felony charges including possession of a controlled substance and endangering the welfare of a child.
