DEANSBORO, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Cassville man has been charged following a late night accident in Deansboro.

According to Sheriff Robert Maciol, around 11 p.m. Wednesday night, deputies responded to a reported accident on Route 12B in Deansboro.

Deputies found that a pick up truck had been traveling south on Route 12B when the driver - Jason Harris, 27, of Cassville - went off the right shoulder and traveled in the ditch for 1/10th of a mile taking out road signs, launched over a driveway then careened across the road and went onto a lawn owned by Dale Champion.

Authorities said Harris then hit a large cement well in Champion's lawn and busted it open.

When Harris exited his vehicle, he fell into the well. Harris was able free himself from the well and fled before deputies arrived.

Lt. McCarthy, who was first on the scene, was able to follow Harris footprints in the snow and found him hiding a little ways from the scene, Harris soaking wet and extremely cold. The temperature was 9 degrees at the time. Harris suffered only minor injuries and did not seek treatment for them.

Harris was charged with DWI, and failure to keep right by Deputy Toby Lindfield, Harris is due in the Town of Kirkland Court next month.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by members from the Deansboro Fire Department and Kirkland Police.
