Man charged with arson in connection to massive Boonville blaze
BOONVILLE, N.Y. (WKTV) - Police have charged a Boonville man with arson in connection to that massive blaze on March 28th that displaced 29 people. David Geer, 34, is charged with Arson, 2nd Degree. Police say Geer started the fire in a mattress with a cigarette at about 2:02 Thursday morning in his first floor apartment at 167 Main Street. Geer allegedly removed his valuable items from his apartment, and refused to allow neighbors access to the apartment to put the fire out. Police say Geer's failure to notify authorities, or allow others access to extinguish the fire, allowed the flames to spread from his apartment. The fire also spread to neighboring buildings. Geer was arraigned in the Town of Steuben Court. He's being held at the Oneida County Jail on $5,000 bail. The investigation continues, with further charges pending.
