(WKTV) - One man who was charged with possession of a loaded 9mm Ruger handgun earlier this month has had an additional charge filed against him as part of a violation of the New York State Safe Act, Utica police say.

Ajarel Patterson, 21, of Hammond Avenue in Utica, faces a charge of unlawful possession of a certain ammunition feeding device. The charge was filed against Patterson on Oct. 23.

According to officials, Patterson and another man were arrested on Oct. 19 for possession of a weapon. The additional charge was filed because the gun had 11 rounds of ammunition. The Safe Act limits ammunition to seven rounds.
