Man faces charges in April officer-involved shooting

(WKTV) - A West Winfield man who was shot by New York State Police in April has been charged, state police said.

David A. Pope, 32, is charged with menacing a police officer and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree.

According to authorities, on April 25, troopers responded to a disturbance in the 300 block of Mill Street in the Village of West Winfield. Pope allegedly confronted the trooper and was wielding a large knife. The trooper fired a .45-caliber round, striking Pope in the stomach.

Pope was sent to the Herkimer County Correctional Facility. Bail was set at $75,000 cash bail or $150,000 bond.
