Man killed in logging accident identified

(WKTV) - The victim in a Tuesday logging accident in the Town of Madison has been identified, the Madison County Sheriff's Office said.

Charles Ferguson, 64, of Vernon died after a tree being cut fell on him.

According to officials, Ferguson and his brother, John Ferguson, were logging on land owned by John Ferguson on Water Street in Madison. A tree being cut fell on Charles Ferguson, and John Ferguson immediately called 911 and received guidance from the dispatcher to help Charles Ferguson until emergency medical technicians arrived.

Charles Ferguson was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, where he later died. The investigation is pending autopsy results, but at this time the accident appears to be accidental.

Charles Ferguson was wearing safety equipment at the time of the accident.
