Man wanted in Mississippi arrested in Herkimer

(WKTV) - A fugitive wanted in Mississippi was captured Monday in Herkimer, the U.S. Marshals Service said.

John Crawford, 34, was wanted in Desoto County, Miss., on a 2013 warrant for violation of probation. Crawford is on probation in Mississippi for a 2007 child abuse conviction.

According to officials, members of the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force in Mississippi developed information that Crawford may have moved to Herkimer. Further investigation showed Crawford was living on North Main Street. Surveillance was placed on his home and about 2:45 p.m. Monday, Crawford was seen walking north on North Main. He was arrested without incident. He was transported to the Herkimer Police Department, where he was processed and arraigned as a fugitive from justice.

The U.S. Marshals Service Utica Division, Oneida County Sheriff's Office Warrants Unit, Utica Police Department Warrants Unit and the Herkimer Police Department assisted in the investigation.
