(WKTV) - A man wanted on a rape charge in the City of Oneida was arrested Friday in the Town of Waterford, after he ran into the Mohawk River, Waterford police said.

Carl Goodson, 22, is charged with aggravated unlicensed operation, improper passing, failure to yield the right of way, speed not reasonable and failure to notify DMV of an address change. Oneida City Police have lodged their warrant against Goodson on a rape charge.

According to authorities, about 10 a.m. Friday, an officer saw a car commit several traffic violations. He stopped the car and a man jumped from the car and ran down a steep embankment and into the Mohawk River. The man ran along the river bank, and the Cohoes Police Department's K9 unit was called and assisted in apprending the man.

Police say Goodson has had his licensed suspended 11 times. Once he was taken in to custody, Waterford police learned the Oneida City Police Department had a warrant for Goodson.

Goodson was sent to Saratoga County Jail on a $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bail bond.
