Marine Corps drill instructor speaks to Proctor students

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) Some Proctor High School ninth graders gathered at the Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES in New Hartford Saturday and got quite an earful from a marine corps drill instructor.

The 64 students are all cadets in the Junior ROTC Program at Proctor. Organizers say the day started at 5:00 a.m. and went straight through 8:00.

Naval Science Director Master Chief Mark Williamson said, "it's a big process, it's a big program. they got haircuts, they're doing everything military style. i've got marine corps drill instructors here today to give them a little taste of military life at the same time teaching them military leadership as well."

Clifford C. Crandall with the American Martial Arts Institute was also on-hand to teach the cadets some basic personal safety lessons, which he says gives them a lot more self confidence.
