Marine from Richfield Springs killed in action

By HILARY LANE

RICHFIELD SPRINGS, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Richfield Springs community is mourning after a local Marine was killed in action in Afghanistan earlier this week.

Cpl. Alex F. Domion, 21., died Oct. 31, as a result of a non-combat related incident in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

This incident is under investigation.

Domion's grandmother said she cannot believe her beloved grandson is gone.

"He is a good soul, he really was," said Shipman.

Tuesday night Shipman received what she said was the most devastating news of her life. Domion was killed while on a mission training Afghan soldiers during his second tour overseas.

"He just had to prove he could be somebody and he was," said Shipman. "A proud marine, a very proud marine, very proud."

Also a proud friend, husband, brother, son, and grandon, Domion was taken from this earth prematurely.

"Fun loving Alex who loved to play tricks and tease people and have fun with them and horse around with them," said Shipman. "But he was very smart and very good on a computer and knew how to figure out things you couldn't."

Corporal Domion will be buried in Arlington Cemetery. His grandmother said it's exactly what the proud marine would have wanted.
