Masonic Care Community to host area's first-ever Mud Run

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Masonic Care Community is hosting the area's first-ever mud run on May 4, 2013 on the Masonic Care Community's Campus.

The "5k Mighty Run" is a team race made up of 12 military-style obstacles on challenging terrain. Teamwork, strength, and agility will be tested as more than 4,000 athletes trudge through fire, water, and mud.

"There are people who can literally get off the couch, sign up and participate," said J.P. Kidwell, Director of The Mighty Run. "It's not a race against the clock. It's to have time to enjoy yourself, enjoy the course, and enjoy Utica."

The event is expected to bring thousands of people to the area.

"They will be staying in our hotels, and dining in our restaurants and filling up our gas tank with gasoline and all of those things lead into the economic impact of what an event like this will do for Utica," said Kelly Blazosky, Oneida County Tourism Executive Director.
