Mayor, others plant trees for Arbor Day

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - In what the mayor calls one more step in making the city better, Uticans gathered Friday for Arbor Day festivities.

Mayor Robert Palmieri and the Central New York Conservancy founder grabbed shovels and planted a ceremonial red maple together in Proctor Part. They're also taking down diseased trees and pruning plants.

"Over time, we've lost a lot of trees," said Palmieri. "Arbor Day, at this point in 2014, means much more than it did in the past. You're going to see a changing in the complexion of this park. And it will be like the park was 60, 70 years ago."

Proctor High School students also joined in, planting nine trees.
