By WKTV News

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The 2013 Mayor's Benefit Gala raised a grand total of $50,000 its chosen organization Utica Safe Schools.

The announcement was made Wednesday morning at the Underground Café.

Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri's wife, Sue made the announcement and thanked the community for continued support.

"They are always willing to give, they are always willing to participate, whether it be a dollar, or the fruits of their labors, anything that they do," Palmieri said.

She says Utica Safe Schools was chosen shortly after the Tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.

"We went with Utica Safe Schools this year because it just seemed to be the perfect fit with everything that happened in Newtown, CT," she said. "Anything to enhance the welfare and wellbeing of our students is worthwhile."
