Police: McConnellsville fire chief started Yager Road fire

VIENNA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The McConnellsville Fire Chief has been arrested after allegedly starting a fire Friday in the Town of Vienna.

Chief Howard Roache, age 35, has also been charged with arson by New York State Police.

Friday's fire broke out at 8177 Yager Road in the Town of Vienna. After the fire was put out, it was deemed arson.

State Police tell NEWSChannel 2 the residence owner had a camera installed that tipped investigators off.

Additionally, McConnellsville Firefighter James Goold, age 54, has been arrested for starting a separate fire at an abandoned maintenance building at 3047 Wheeler Hill Road in the Town of Annsville on February 2.

Goold admitted to the crime to police when they were interviewing him about the Yager Road fire, according to police.

Police continue to investigate other suspicious fires in the area.
