Utica, NY (March 21, 2014)- Heartland Media, new owners of WKTV and CW 11 in Utica, has announced that current station manager/news director Steve McMurray has been elevated to the role of General Manager.
In his new role, McMurray will oversee all day-to-day and long term operations of the station.
“We were convinced from our first meetings regarding the acquisition of WKTV that Steve was the right person to be General Manager”, said Bob Prather, President and CEO of Heartland Media. “With his background and knowledge of both the station and the community, we are confident he has the ability to implement the improvements planned,” Prather added.
WKTV is the first station for Heartland Media, but Prather recently announced that Heartland had purchased 3 stations in Oregon—a deal that should close by mid-summer.
“I’m so excited at what the future holds for WKTV, and am so grateful for an opportunity that allows me to stay in the community where I grew up. I couldn’t be more thrilled and humbled at the same time,” said McMurray.
“We have some big plans coming to fruition in the not-so-distant future that I know our viewers will be pleased with,” added McMurray.
McMurray has been at WKTV since 2002 when he joined the station as the Assignment Manager. He was promoted to News Director in 2004 and Station Manager in 2012. Before coming to WKTV, McMurray spent 7 years at WUTR in Utica in various positions including News Director.
McMurray is a Frankfort native and graduate of Syracuse University. He still lives in Frankfort with his wife and two children.
