Meat Processing Company looking to come to Frankfort

By WKTV News

FRANKFORT, N.Y. (WKTV) - Lawmakers say a meat processing company is interested in building a new plant in Herkimer County. The empty land known as the "Pumpkin Patch Site," just off of Route 5S in Frankfort, is the target of the "Gold Medal Packing Company."

Herkimer County legislators approved a measure to seek state funding on behalf of the company Wednesday night. If secured, the grant money would be funneled down to the county's Industrial Development Agency, then on to Gold Medal.

Chairman of the Herkimer County Board of Legislators Vincent Bono says "Gold Medal" could spend $10 million on development in Frankfort.

"This is positive," says Bono. "It potentially brings more people to the area and creates more jobs we need."

Bono says 75 jobs would be created to start, with the potential of 150 jobs down the road.
