Mechanical malfunction causes rollover crash near Griffiss Park

By WKTV News

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - The on-ramp to Route 49 East from the Griffiss Business Park was tangled up for much of the day Sunday after a tractor trailer rolled over. The accident occurred around 3:30 p.m.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Department says there was a mechanical failure causing the two trailers to break free from the tractor. The two trailers traveled off the edge of the roadway and the first trailer overturned in the median between the on ramp and State Route 49.

The truck was from the Family Dollar Store. The driver, from New Hampshire, was not hurt.

The Sheriff"s Office was assisted at the scene by the Rome Fire Department, the Rome Police Department and the New York State Department of Transportation.
