Memorial service set for victims of '09 NY crash
CLARENCE, N.Y. (AP) - A public memorial service will be held outside Buffalo to remember the 50 people who were killed five years ago when a commuter flight crashed into a house.
Continental Flight 3407 was just five miles from the Buffalo airport when the plane experienced an aerodynamic stall and dropped onto a house in suburban Clarence on the night of Feb. 12, 2009.
Forty-nine people on board the plane and a man in the house were killed. A memorial has been established at the crash site.
The memorial service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church at 8 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a candlelight procession to the crash site, where the victims' names will be read.
Relatives of the victims are involved with planning of a public monument at the Clarence library.
