Middle school students show off history knowledge at statewide contest

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - Middle school students from across the state presented their knowledge of history as part of the New York State History Fair on Monday.

About 500 seventh and eighth graders presented their knowledge of history at the competition at the Farmers' Museum in Cooperstown. This year's theme was Rights and Responsibilities in History. The categories for presentation were broken up into documentary, exhibit, website and performance.

"They learn how to synthesize information, solve problems and present their own ideas in a really clear way for a variety of audiences," said Erin Robinson of the Fenimore Art Museum and Farmers' Museum.

The winners in Cooperstown will travel to Washington, D.C., for the national competition in June. Cooperstown is picked for the location for the state competition because it's centrally located.
