COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (WKTV) - Otsego County Sheriff investigators aren't sure what a father and son there were arguing about early Saturday morning that lead to the death of the father and the son's arrest for his murder.
The county 9-1-1 center got a call around 1:42 Saturday morning for a prowler outside 139 Indian Run Rd. The caller's nephew, 33-year-old Michael Buck, was the prowler.
Buck also had a gunshot wound to his mouth. Emergency workers brought him to Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown where police charged him with the murder of his 64-year-old father, Joseph Buck. Police discovered the elder buck dead in his home at 163 Indian Run Rd., where the younger Buck was staying temporarily.
"It's an ongoing investigation. Joseph Buck was shot multiple times. Michael Buck was shot once," said Sheriff Richard J. Devlin, Jr. at a news conference Monday afternoon.
Police say both handguns were legally owned by Joseph Buck and police have both weapons. They stop short of saying the two shot each other, saying they're waiting for forensic and ballistic test results.
Michael Buck is in the Otsego County Jail without bail. He can make a bail application to Otsego County Court, where he's due for an appearance September 30. He's charged with murder, assault and criminal use of a weapon.
