Miles to go for Oneida after flooding devastation
ONEIDA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Seven days of hard work, but it's still miles to go in the City of Oneida, as residents continue to recover following last week's devastating floods.
It was piles of debris in front of homes and trees along with bushes covered in mud, as families fight to recover in Oneida. The fire chief said he has seen three floods in 38 years and says this one, by far, was the worst.
One week later the city is still in recovery mode, 'de-watering,' as they call it, still getting water out of basements and businesses. 215 homes were flooded and only 12 of those families have been allowed back in. Forty businesses were flooded.
Five inches of rain in Munnsville and Stockbridge last Thursday flooded tributaries, causing the normally two-foot Oneida Creek to go over its banks.
If there is any bright spot to be found, it's that many in Oneida have flood insurance.
