WHITESBORO, N.Y. (WKTV) - The U.S. Postal Service announced Wednesday that come August they will be stopping Saturday mail delivery to save it billions of dollars. While post offices are staying open on Saturday and package delivery will not be changed, the change is getting mixed reviews.

Starting August 5th, mail will only be delivered to homes and businesses Monday through Friday.
It's a move the postal service has wanted to make for years and is expected to save them about $2 billion annually.
Outside of the Whitesboro Post Office Wednesday, many customers felt the Saturday mail delivery is a service they shouldn't lose.

"I think it's terrible we need mail every day," said Mary Randazzo or Whitesboro.

"I have mixed feelings, I know that financially it will benefit, but I do like my mail on saturdays," said Elizabeth Creo of Remsen.

Under the new plan, mail will still be delivered to post office boxes on Saturdays, and the post offices that are now open on Saturdays will remain open on Saturdays.

Package delivery will not change, what unlike the delivery of mail and letters has increased by 14 percent since 2010 and what some residents said they now only use the post office for.

It's those who still rely on the "snail mail" that will now have to think ahead in getting their letters in on time, especially around holidays.

"I pay most of my bills online and online things using my debit card," said Walter Park of Rome. "So no, it doesn't affect me that much."
