Mohawk Valley community mourns loss of 14-year-old girl

GERMAN FLATTS, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Mohawk Valley community is mourning the loss of the 14-year-old girl killed right in front of her home Friday night on Route 5S.

Kali Guyer was helping her friends look for a cell phone along Route 5S in German Flatts around 8:00 Friday night, right across the road from her home, when she was struck by an S.U.V.

Guyer family spokesperson Larry Holloway, Kali's father's best friend, told NEWSChannel 2 on Saturday morning that the entire family is devastated.

Holloway says he has been a family friend since before Kali was born and it's just hard to imagine a life without her smiling face,

He says Kali, an 8th grader at Jarvis Jr/Sr High School was the life of the party, who loved to hang out with her friends. He said, "Have a good time, go out, see movies and just laugh, she just loved life, everything about it."

New York State Police investigators say Kali was attempting to cross Route 5S, which has a speed limit of 55 miles per hour in that particular section, when she was struck by a Chrysler Pacifica driven by a 24-year-old man from Little Falls.

No tickets have been issued, but police say the investigation is continuing.

Larry Holloway says for those of us who never got to meet Kali missed out on one of the happiest young girls in the entire world. He said, "She was just so full of life and loved everyone, anyone could walk up to her and she would treat em great. She was definitely worth meeting, and should have said hi whenever you had the chance."

Kali was the oldest of five children.
