(WKTV) - Two recent State Police enforcement initiatives -- Speed Week, which targeted aggressive drivers, and Operation Hang Up, aimed at stopping distracted driving -- netted more than 2,000 tickets in the Troop D area, Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office announced.

Troop D consists of Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga and Oswego counties.

Of the tickets issued by Troop D during the initiatives, 900 speeding tickets were issued and 96 cell phone violations were handed out. There were 29 texting/electronic device citations, and 125 distracted driving tickets issued. A total of 2,317 tickets were handed out.

"We are committed to curbing this reckless behavior and will continue to crack down on drivers who put the lives of their fellow motorists at risk,” Cuomo said.
