Mt Markham Elementary Principal charged, accused of using excessive force with student

WEST WINFIELD, N.Y. (WKTV) - The principal of an elementary school in Herkimer County has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child after authorities say he used excessive force to restrain a child at the school.

According to New York State Police, James LaFountain, 57, of Utica, has been charged with one count of endangering the welfare of a child.

LaFountain, the principal of Mt Markham Elementary School is accused of using excessive physical force while restraining a third grade student at the school in West Winfield.

He has been issued an appearance ticket for the Town of Winfield Court returnable on February 15, 2012 at 6 p.m.
