WESTERN, N.Y. (WKTV) -  A Rome woman is charged with two counts of vehicular assault and driving while intoxicated, while an Oriskany man is fighting for his life after a serious accident on Elmer Hill Road in the Town of Western Saturday morning.

According to Oneida County Sheriff's Deputies, Grace Pirillo, 47, of Rome was driving north just before 10 a.m. when she struck a house at 8666 Elmer Hill Road.

Her passenger, Mark Salerno, 53, of Oriskany, was rushed to Rome Memorial Hospital, then taken to Upstate Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.

Deputies say Pirillo failed to negotiate a sharp curve in the roadway, went off the shoulder of the road, hit the curve warning sign, careened across a lawn, then hit the back of a pickup truck before spinning and hitting the corner of the house with the passenger side of her 2009 Volkswagen.

Pirillo was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Medical Center where she was arraigned.

She's being held at the Oneida County Correctional Facility on $50,000 bail.

No one inside the residence was hurt.

The accident investigation continues.
