Munnsville woman injured after car strikes utility pole

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - A Munnsville woman received minor injuries in a one-car accident shortly before midnight Sunday in the Town of Vernon, the Oneida County Sheriff's Office said.

According to officials, Mary F. Stewart, 64, was driving her 2009 Toyota Camry westbound on State Route 5 when she lost control of her car because of speed on the snow-covered road. She skidded across the eastbound lane, left the roadway, went into a ditch and struck a utility pole, shearing it in half. The telephone pole and power lines fell on top of her car and Stewart was stuck in the vehicle for about 45 minutes.

National Grid crews cut power to the utility pole and Stewart was helped out of the car by members of the Vernon Volunteer Fire Department. Stewart was transported to Oneida City Hospital for treatment of a minor leg injury.

Stewart was ticketed for speed not prudent and reasonable for road conditions and failure to keep right, deputies said. She will appear in Vernon Town Court in February.
