Mural on Main Street highlights Holiday Stroll

By WKTV News

HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Annual Holiday Stroll was held on Main St. in Herkimer, Saturday.

Locals gathered on Main St. for the stroll, and were surprised to find a brand new mural painted where the Valley shooting spree occurred just a few months ago.

The mural was created by Herkimer students in 6th grade through high school, who created two separate murals based on age group.

"The painted murals were put up because the boards covering the broken windows and doors were a real eye sore to the street," said Herkimer resident, Heather Wheelerstapf. "It was a reminder of what happened here a year ago, so Herkimer Now organization contacted us to help beautify the street and change the memory of this place."

The children were able to act quickly, and completed the mural in just one week.
