NAACP honors graduating seniors with ceremony

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - The NAACP had their annual high school senior recognition night Monday.

The group recognized students graduating from Rome Free Academy for their accomplishments in athletics, academics and plays. The Rev. Richard P. Lewis was given to the minority graduating senior with the highest scholastic average, and the competitive 2014 NAACP branch award was given to the most outstanding student.

"It's the end of the year, right before graduation," said Jackie Nelson, secretary of the Rome branch of the NAACP. "We take tonight to give certificates out, scholarships, refreshments and congratulate them and parents and guardians, who had a big part in what they do."

Certificates of recognition were presented to graduating seniors from local area high schools.
