NHPD: Chadwick's man jailed after stealing cigarettes and money from acquaintance
NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Chadwicks resident is at the Oneida County Jail Saturday after allegedly breaking into the home of someone he knows and stealing money and cigarettes.
According to New Hartford Police, 46-year-old John Berube broke into a home on Elm Street in Chadwicks.
The homeowner contact police around 10:45 a.m. to report that a male had entered his residence while he was sleeping and stole cash and a pack of cigarettes from him.
Police say the victim was familiar with the suspect and gave police a description of the suspect's clothing and vehicle.
Police located the vehicle and Berube at his Oneida Street residence a short time later.
Police were able to recover the cigarettes from Berube’s vehicle.
Berube was arrested and charged with burglary and petit larceny. and sent to the Oneida County Correctional Facility in lieu of $20,000 bail. He is due to return to court at a later date.
