ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WKTV) - The New York State Republican Convention in Rochester on Friday did not produce an endorsed candidate.

However, it did produce a primary ballot with three candidates.

None of the three hopefuls garnered the minimum required 50% of the votes of the delegates from around the state.

Manhattan attorney Wendy Long came closest with around 47%. Late comer, Congressman Bob Turner, squeaked onto the primary ballot with the minimum required 25%. Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos also gets a spot on the ballot without going through the rigorous primary ballot. He garnered 27% of the vote at Friday's convention.

State Republican Chair Edward Cox says all are strong candidates and that Democrat Incumbent Kirsten Gillibrand is beatable.

"The more she is in Washington the worse she looks. She is very weak; she's turned out just to be a clone of Charles Schumer," says Cox.

Oneida County Republican Chair George Mitchell is putting his support behind Wendy Long.

"I think Wendy's in the best position to do that however I think George Maragos would do a fine job as well. I think Kirsten is absolutely beatable," says Mitchell.

Herkimer County Republican Chair Sylvia Rowan, also at Friday's convention, says she looks at both a candidate's resume and their ability, in her opinion, to beat incumbent Gillibrand.

"Kind of looking at both. I think Kirsten Gillibrand is beatable if we have the right candidate. I think both of them are very well qualified," says Rowan.

Wendy Long, George Maragos and Bob Turner will face off in a republican primary for U.S. Senate on June 26.
