NYS Secretary of State pays visit to Utica

By WKTV News

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - New York State Secretary of State, Cesar Perales, visited the "office for New Americans" Opportunity Center in Utica, Wednesday.
Governor Cuomo established the first Statewide Office for New Americans last year, with the attempt to help immigrants contribute to the economy and become assimilated to New York State.
Wednesday, Perales visited the offices, as well as, the Mohawk Valley Resource Center for Refugees, which houses the Local Opportunity Center.
"Now we've got other cities trying to emulate Utica," Perales said. "You read about Dayton, Ohio and a variety of other places that see their future very much dependent on their ability to attract immigrants, to attract refugees, to make them part of the community and to have them contribute."

Utica is one of 27 neighborhood-based opportunity centers for New Americans throughout the state.
