NYSP: woman proceeded through posted "do not enter" signs, leading to three-car accident on Route 49

MARCY, N.Y. (WKTV) - A woman transported to the hospital with multiple internal injuries was ticketed after authorities say she caused a three-car accident on Route 49 in Marcy on Wednesday.

According to New York State Police, Karen Farmer, 56, entered State Route 49 through posted "do not enter" and "wrong way" signs from State Route 291 and proceeded the wrong way onto State Route 49 shortly before 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

While driving west in the eastbound lane, authorities say Farmer caused Michael Davis, of Utica to take evasive action to avoid a collision, which caused Davis to strike a guide rail.State Police say Farmer continued westbound in the eastbound lane and subsequently collided head-on with Christopher Staats, who was traveling east on State Route 49.

Farmer was transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center with multiple internal injuries and Staats was also transported with an injury to his left knee.

State Police say Farmer was cited for several violations of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law and the investigation is ongoing.
