National Grid employees help clean up Herkimer park

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - One of the hardest hit areas of Herkimer County during the June 2013 floods was the Village of Herkimer.

On Thursday, a park that was completely underwater at one time was given some extra attention. More than a dozen National Grid workers took time out of their workday Thursday afternoon to spend an hour cleaning up Point Park on German Street.

The crew also helped clean up Maxwell Field in Oneida earlier Thursday.

"They're the men and women who live here," said National Grid Regional Executive Melanie Little john. "They are part of this community. They believe in restoration, not only the physical aspects, but really, how do we be here to support communities for the long term?"

An executive with National Grid also presented a stone plaque to Herkimer Mayor Mark Ainsworth with an inscription that reads, "Where flowers bloom, so does hope."
