National Grid warns customers of phone scam
By NEWSChannel 2

National Grid is warning its local customers across Central New York of a phone scam that has reached at least a dozen people and may have duped others.

In the last several weeks, customers have reported calls from people posing as National Grid representatives asking for personal financial information, or telling customers to obtain money orders, prepaid cards or other forms of payment to avoid service shut-offs.

National grid does occasionally call and request payment information for customers with previous balances, but anyone who is uncertain if a National grid phone call is genuine can verify it by hanging up and calling National grid at 1-800-642-4272.

If you've already fallen victim to a scam, call your local police department.
