National Hot Dog Day serves up big American flavor

By SPENCER DAVIDSON

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - It's National Hot Dog Day around the country, Thursday, and locally places such as Nicky Doodles in North Utica have a grill full of dogs ready to go.

From ball parks to back yards and even at your neighborhood hot dog stand, frankfurters have become the ultimate American food.

While Nicky Doodles does have a hot dog special every Tuesday in the summer, Thursday is yet another day for them to serve the community something that's become a staple of the American culture..

"It's just something that everybody has all the time," said Tim Twomey, Nicky Doodles' owner. "You can never have enough hot dogs, people always want to eat hot dogs.

"It's like the food item you can eat 4 or 5 you know, you can just keep eating them."

Twomey also said that Nicky Doodles sells about 100 or more hot dogs a day, and that during their Tuesday specials, where you can buy two dogs for just under a dollar, they can sell up to 6,000 between all their locations.
