Neighbors anticipate Moe.down will be a show down when it comes to traffic

By CAROLINE GABLE

MOHAWK, NY (WKTV) - Moe.down is gearing up for a three day concert happening at Gelston Castle, this weekend.

For the very first time the event will take place at the new venue, and while most neighbors don't mind the music or the crowds, they aren't happy about the traffic the festival brings.

Wednesday night crews were putting the finishing touches on the stage. Concert promoters say by Thursday morning, the venue will be ready for the estimated 8,000 people descending on the site.

Neighbors say they are bracing for three straight days of bumper to bumper traffic outside their homes, though many will be going to the concert themselves.

In July, the Further concert at Gelston Castle gave neighbors a taste of what concert traffic will be like over the weekend.

Paul Besig says he hopes alternate routes will be opened up for those not attending the concert. Besig lives four miles from the concert site and says traffic was backed up for six miles from the entrance gate for the July Further concert. Besig is already worried about how long it will take him to get home from work Friday night.

"Just trying to get back home, because I know its going to be heck, I'm gong to have to go up the road a few miles and then come back down, because I know I won't get out here if its backed up like it was the last time," said Besig.

Residents who live on local roads near Gelston Castle, like Mortzs, Pine Bush, Casey, and Mason will receive special passes to get through road blocks, because those roads will be closed.

Moe.down kicks off on Friday and will run through Sunday.
